Problem statement

The energy production from renewable sources is highly dependent on the weather. In order to plan the production, the energy producers need to know the expected weather conditions whose forecasts are available from the weather services. In addition, the energy producers need to know the expected production for the next day, week, month and year.

System description

We built a program on top of MS Excel which estimated the energy production for the next day, week, month and year. The Excel spreadsheet enabled the user to review all the data (historic and predicted) to verify the results. The program was based on the weather forecast data from the weather service for the next week and the historical production data for that time of the year. The prediction algorithm was based on fuzzy logic and was implemented in C#.

Outcome

The program is successfully used by the energy producer to plan the production and to buy and sell energy on the energy market.
